C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels compares STAR WARS level of secrecy to the Kremlin, saying it’s ‘beyond Ludacris’

C-3PO is a staple of the Star Wars franchise. The lovable droid, played by Anthony Daniels, is always welcomed by fans of the movies and shows, but it hasn’t been an easy road for the actor. Known for always speaking his mind, Daniels has gotten into several scuffles with fans after badmouthing his co-star, Kenny Bakerwho played R2-D2 in the movies, and even complained about the ever-changing shooting schedule of The force awakens.

The changes weren’t the only gripe Daniels had about the film. In 2015, the actor spoke to The Guardian about playing the famed droid again, and it really touched his disgust at the extent of the film’s secrecy:

“The secrecy was beyond ridiculous. […] For God’s sake, it’s a movie. When I got the script, it was written in black on deep red paper, so you couldn’t photocopy it. I got a hangover just reading it.”

It was such a fun time seeing C-3PO and R2-D2 back on the big screen, but it felt like their roles were little more than fan service. Though his role was basically an extended cameo, Daniels still managed to get a rebuke from studio execs for mentioning another actor’s name on social media:

“I said I had met so-and-so. An actor playing a […] thing in the movie. A character. Immediately I received a message from Disney: ‘Remove the tweet! You are not allowed to say that!’ Honestly. It’s kind of the attitude of the Kremlin. Look, I know very well not to tell you what I’m giving you for Christmas right now because it would ruin the surprise. And these movies are about opening the box on Christmas day.”

Luckily for Daniels, he’s probably done with the role of C-3PO. Looks like he’s ready to retire. But we’ll always have the movies that he made, and despite his grumpiness, he created something truly special with his take on the beloved droid.
