Years ago it was reported that Disney was developing a revival sequel to the classic 90s film franchise, Honey, I shrunk the kids titled Shrunken.
Josh Gad will star in the film as Wayne Szalinski’s adult son, Nick Szalinski. The story of the new film exists in the same world as the other films in the series and continues the general plot. Nick follows in his father’s footsteps by not only becoming a scientist, but also accidentally dwarfing his children.
Rick Moranis he was also supposed to reprise Wayne’s role in the film, which was damn exciting! Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much movement on the project since it was announced. Gad recently took to Twitter to offer an update on the project, and it doesn’t look too good:
“Many of you ask me what’s going on with this film. The truth is, we were inches from starting and then COVID hit, inches from starting over and then my schedule erupted with conflict, inches from starting over and the budget got the better of us. If you want it, let your local @disney know.
So, the project just hit a lot of snags and it seems like maybe Disney has opted out, which is why Gad is asking fans to let your local Disney know you want the movie. Honestly, I just want to see Moranis acting in movies again! But it would also be fun to revisit these characters because I loved those original movies when I was a kid.
Here are some additional details on the sequel’s story: “Aware that family ties have loosened over time but seemingly fearful of confronting anyone directly. He’s been fumbling alone in his attic for decades, coping with the grief of losing his wife. When we first meet him, he has accidentally shrunk and is flying a shrunken drone, seemingly lost in a constant tinkering and experimenting that often endangers himself and his family. He later reveals he shut down to try and come up with a solution to help reduce Diane’s cancer, but he found it hard to pull through when he ran out of time. His guilt and his shame are palpable. Through the crisis of the shrinking children, the truth emerges and bonds begin to rebuild between him and his children.
Would you like to see Shrunken facts or are you okay with living your life without a follow up a Honey, I shrunk the kids?
