President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy he recently sat down with GamesRadar to talk about a couple of their big Star Wars movie projects. One design is by Daisy Ridley Rey Skywalker movie which was developed by Stefano Cavaliere (Peaky Blinders) and director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (Mrs. Marvel). The other is the James Mangold-directed film that will explore the ancient history of the Star Wars universe and the origins of The Force.
The Rey Skywalker film follows the events of The Rise of Skywalker and will focus on Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order, and is set in a time when the “Jedi are in disarray.” Speaking about this film, Kennedy shared some additional information:
“I think what’s great about Star Wars is that it’s a big galaxy, and we’re coming out of what was a big war with the First Order, and now, Rey made Luke a promise and that’s really the core of it. of where we’re going and what this story is going to be. And I think it just provides an incredible opportunity to introduce new characters and start with something new, because we culminated with what George [Lucas] he was creating, and now we take all of that and move it to the next chapter.”
As for Mangold’s film, it will explore how the Force was discovered! The director previously said, “It occurred to me that if I was doing one, it seemed to me that most of what they were thinking of doing with movies was in the Star Wars present or in the future, and what I what attracted the most was the distant past and how this galaxy was formed and how, more specifically, the Force was discovered.” Kennedy spoke of this by saying that there has also been interest in telling this type of story:
“A lot has come up, from the moment I walked in and George brought me to the company, there’s been a lot of interest in it.”
While one film is set in the future and the other is set in the distant past, Kennedy explains that there is a connective tissue between the two, explaining:
“It was something that Jim [Mangold] he just sparked off right away, and I think that’s a really nice compliment to what we’re doing moving into the future with Rey, and then figuring out a little bit more where this is all coming from because she’s going to be at the heart of creating the new Jedi Order, so having an actual idea of where it might have started with Dawn of the Jedi might be pretty cool.”
I just want these Star Wars movies to be great! I know it’s possible, I just want to see a big screen Star Wars movie again that fills me with excitement! I want to be excited about Star Wars movies again!
