Character creation is one of my favorite parts of tabletop RPG. There are so many possible combinations of races, classes and attributes to play with. But when it comes to backstory and personality building, many characters are left with superficial details at best. For some players, this works well and they enjoy more character development through play with the group. But for others, crafting the character’s backstory can be challenging and may even seem impossible.
A new supplement available at DriveThruRPG has you covered. Creation myths Of gothHoblin challenges you with a series of tips to really delve into your character and what makes them tick. Your guide will walk you through 12 sections, each filled with questions to answer about your character. There are many different approaches you can take. You can try to answer each question, you can throw random questions to answer, or you can choose which ones suit your character best. Some questions are simple and others require you to tell an entire story, so you’ll want to keep some sort of journal as you go through them.
I think this seems like a really fun way to develop characters for any game system. This could also be useful for DMs when creating great villains or even just those NPCs your players randomly decided they were going to die for. The guide says it can be used for new or already played characters, so this could be a fun way to hone a character if you’re having trouble getting the personality right. These questions may apply to characters on many different game systems, this is definitely not limited to Dungeons & Dragons 5e.
