Every year at San Diego Comic-Con, Hall H is the place to be. You need to check out the convention floor to find your favorite artists, comics, game materials, swag, merch, and experiences. The smaller halls in the convention center and in and around the hotel across the street host lots of great panels from your favorite shows and great upcoming projects, but Hall H is where the larger studios host their panels. This is where you see the biggest stars and feel the buzz about the convention’s biggest news, always culminating in the most exciting panel of the entire weekend, Marvel Studios.
Unfortunately, the studio known for its powerful presentations officially retired this year. The Wrap reports that Marvel has announced that they will be skipping the Hall H panel this year, but have confirmed they will be on the convention floor.
The studio claims that they currently have multiple productions on hiatus due to the ongoing writers’ strike. Currently paused productions include Blade, Lightning, DaredevilAND Wonder Man.
The writer’s strike along with a potential strike by SAG-AFTRA are making it difficult for movie studios to show up to the annual convention without products and artists to promote their wares. If SAG-AFTRA is unable to agree on a new employment contract and orders a strike, the actors would be unable to do any promotional work for their movies and TV shows as part of the work stoppage.
SAG-AFTRA could order a strike anytime after their current contract with Hollywood studios expires on June 30 if a deal is not reached. Universal and HBO are also said to be out of the Hall H panel scene. San Diego Comic-Con will take place the weekend of July 21st. What happens in the next few weeks could certainly alter the look of the convention this year. We will keep you updated.
