Netflix has released a full trailer for its animated fantasy adventure film Nimona. The film is based on the graphic novel by ND Stevensonand the story follows a teenage girl named Nimona who has the power to transform into different kinds of animals.
Chloe Grace Moretz she plays Nimona and ends up teaming up with a knight who she initially thinks is a villain. The knight is called Ballister Boldheart and is played by Riz Ahmed. Nimona wants to be his sidekick, but he’s been accused of a crime he didn’t commit. Nimona ends up helping him clear his name as he is being targeted by another knight who is trying to bring him down.
The film was directed by Nicholas Bruno AND Troy Quanewho was previously at the helm Spies in disguise. The voice cast for the film also includes Eugene Lee Yang, Frances Conroy, Lorraine Toussaint, Beck Bennett, India Moore, Julius TorresAND Ru Paul Charles.
In the film: “When Ballister Boldheart (Ahmed), a knight in a futuristic medieval world, is framed for a crime he didn’t commit, the only one who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona (Moretz), a mischievous teenager with a taste for chaos, who is also a shapeshifting creature that Ballister has been trained to destroy. But with the entire realm ready to take him, Nimona is the best (or technically the only) sidekick Ballister could hope for. And while the lines between heroes, villains and monsters begin to blur, the two set out to cause some serious mayhem – for Ballister to clear his name once and for all, and for Nimona to… just cause some serious mayhem.
The film project was originally created at Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios, but after Disney bought 20th Century Fox, they canceled it. Annapurna Pictures ended up accepting the project and Netflix will release it.
Netflix will debut Nimona on June 30, 2023. Enjoy the new trailer!
