If you haven’t seen Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse however, you should know that this article enters major spoiler territory. It’s about the end of the movie. If you’ve seen the movie, don’t worry, you know exactly what this article is going to be about.
During the film’s climax, Miles Morales attempts to defer himself to his reality after an epic chase sequence involving Spider-Man 2099 and the Spider Society, and he apparently succeeded. But, as the story continues to unfold, it is revealed that he actually sent himself into the spider universe which turned him into Spider-Man. He is then captured by an alternate version of himself who is also in that universe, and in this universe, Miles is The Prowler.
Co-director Kemp Powers recently spoke to Variety about the film’s big surprise ending and continued to tease an exciting and interesting story arc for The Prowler’s version of Miles. He explained:
“He was such an exciting character, it was actually hard for us to keep it a secret. Oh man, the design is so different, it’s such a visual starting point. And to explore how Miles might have developed if he was in a different world.” in which he didn’t have his father, he was tutored by his uncle, what kind of kid would that be? For people who see Miles G. Morales at the end, don’t judge a book by its cover. to get to know that character. He’s a very, very character Interesting”.
From what little we know about Miles’ The Prowler, it sounds like he could be a villainous character. This is the first impression we have. So if they don’t want us to judge this character by his looks, maybe he’s not the villain we think he is. Perhaps this version of the character is more of an anti-hero.
I imagine the next chapter of the story, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, will see The Prowler version of Miles Morales wanting to go to the universe of the Spider-Man version of Miles, so he can see his father. But we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m excited to see how this story continues to play out!
