A round-up of the trailers and news shared during the Xbox Games Showcase

The weekend was full of things players got excited about. There was the Summer Games Fest and as part of that the Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct. We’ve already talked about it a bit. Star Wars: Outlaws, and while Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Freedom it was announced and shown during the Xbox Games Showcase, that he will be receiving one of his articles. This article will briefly review the other games (and hardware) covered by Xbox. There were about 27 games featured, so buckle up. If you prefer, I’ve included the videos in full at the bottom.

Note: The links below may be affiliate links.

First, let’s talk about hardware. It took Xbox some time to announce the new Xbox Series S in Carbon Black. This is exactly the same as the original Xbox Series S with two changes. The first change is obviously the color. Its carbon black matches the Xbox Series X better. The other change is that the internal SSD has been doubled to be 1TB. Of course, with an increase in storage, there is an increase in price. You can pre-order your Xbox Series S in Carbon Black from Microsoft for $349.99 which launches on September 1st.

The new additional hardware includes the new Starfield Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Controller and Xbox Wireless Headset. These accessories look quite stylish and will cost $79.99 and $124.99 respectively with a September 6th release date.

Now let’s talk about the games. I was advertised for a new one Fable I’ve been playing for a while, but honestly, I’m not sure how I felt about the teasing we received. I love Richard Ayade and i was so excited when i heard it and saw it. However, the teaser didn’t tell us anything about the substance of the game. We still seem to have the signature humor of the series, which is good, but we have no idea what the gameplay will be like, we have no idea what to expect from a story, we really don’t know anything important. Still, it was nice to see that the teaser featured in-game footage.

So, I know Declared it was getting some flak, but I actually think it was pretty cool. The game certainly offers similar vibes to Bethesda’s popular first-person RPGs, but that’s not inherently a bad thing. I also really like some of the companion systems in other Obsidian games, so I hope Declared it has a solid one.

Clockwork revolution looks like it has potential. I’m very cautious in my optimism, however, as games often talk about the impact of choices in games, and then it turns out it’s not as big a deal as previously thought.

As you would expect, Go Motorsport (pre-orders open) e Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 it looks absolutely gorgeous! Not much to talk about there other than I think it’s cool Microsoft flight simulator is getting a Dune expansion this November complete with Ornithoptera.

Ninja Theory was able to show off a new look Senua Saga: Hellblade II. The trailer is amazing and I especially like the moment where her reflection pulls her through and we have that shocking effect. I LOVE IT! Man, I have to go play Hellblade: Senua’s sacrifice Now.

South of midnight convinced me as soon as I saw the stop-motion animation effect. I’m a sucker for this in movies and after seeing two seconds of the trailer, I was sold on the games. That animation style mixed with the art direction and this game quickly became a must have for me.

I know so many people are excited Starfield. The game looks great, people love what Bethesda releases so much, etc. However, I’m afraid it’s too big. Bethesda likes to make massive games that tend to just be reskin versions of each other. I want to be excited, but I’m worried it’s not just a game for me. I can definitely understand that people love and rave about it (and will probably give it a try), but I’m concerned that it’s just another generic title from Bethesda that they’ve done a great job of marketing. I’m crazy? You can pre-order Starfield now from Microsoft and other resellers including GameStop with a September 6 release date.

Stoic, the creators of the Banner Saga games, revealed Towerborne. This is another game with an art style that I found interesting and addictive. I like that it will be a co-op game and it honestly looks fun. Unfortunately, there’s no word on whether the multiplayer aspect is online-only or if there’s support for couch co-op. It could be fun.

Speaking of co-op gameplay, 33 immortals will let you team up with 32 other players for 33 player co-op action in an action roguelike. It basically looks like 33 players Hades AND Devil which is not inherently a bad thing. I’m afraid the characters all seem rather bland in my opinion. I don’t think it looks bad overall with a minimalistic art design, but then add in 32 other players with very minimalistic characters and it looks a bit lackluster to me. At least they have different colored coats.

This fall, you can expand your city-building skills with City: Skyline II. I dabbled a bit with the first game, and it was fun, but this sequel looks so good! I’m not sure what’s new in this other than improved graphics, but the trailer is very well done. You can pre-order your copy now and get ready to play it on October 24th.

I really like all the different art directions I see in the showcase. Hinterberg underground it has another different art style than the other featured games and it’s just nice to see the studios doing different things. The trailer almost gives me Hilda vibes making it feel very calm and cool, but there is action and puzzle solving to be had. I’ll keep an eye out for more.

Giusant is a new action puzzle game from Don’t Nod that is all about climbing. I don’t think this game is for me. Climbing is one of my least favorite things to do in a game. Maybe they actually made it fun though? Some of the puzzles look pretty fun and I won’t blame you for being excited. It’s just that I personally don’t like climbing.

Yakuza fans should be pumped! The new trailer of Like a dragon – infinite wealth it looked great and was quite funny. We have Kasuga Ichiban waking up naked on a beach wondering where she is. The team behind the trailer did a fantastic job of censoring Ichiban as needed while dazed and confused.

Atlus has a new fantasy RPG for Persona fans to get excited with Metaphor: ReFantazio. You seem to like the Person games and want an extra touch of Fire Emblem, this will be perfect. It should be good enough.

But that wasn’t the only news from Atlus. They have announced Persona 3 Reload which will bring the classic RPG title Persona 3 to modern hardware. It seems to be more of a remake of the game as they promote “a revamped battle system, cutting edge graphics and gameplay, improved audio with a new English voiceover, a remastered soundtrack with new arrangements, and much more.” What do you think? Is it more of a Remaster?

Furthermore, Persona 5 Tacticsa spin-off of the hit game Person 5 it was also announced. It looks like fans will be able to control the Phantom Thieves in a tactical RPG, as they have to battle the Legionnaires. You will have fun Persona 5 Tactics November 17.

Meanwhile, Capcom has got to show off Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess which sounds creepy but not in a scary way. The game will use the RE Engine and if the gameplay looks anything like the trailer, it will look stunning. I look forward to the game trailers.

Payday 3 got its first gameplay trailer though i don’t really care, let me know if it looks good in the comments.

If you like first-person horror games, you might enjoy this It awakens the deep again from The Chinese Room. It doesn’t sound like my kind of game, but I’m a scary cat.

Overwatch 2: Invasion will be the biggest content drop, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to get the New Heroes Start Pack for free. Relapse 76 is getting some DLC to go to Atlantic City. Also, The Elder Scrolls Online is growing up and returning to Morrowind and Apocrypha with the new adventure called Necrom now available on PC and Mac and coming to Xbox on June 20th.

If you are a fan of Monkey Island franchise and/or Sea of Thieves game, you will be thrilled with Sea of Thieves: Legend of Monkey Island. This new collaboration comes from Rare and Lucasfilm Games as you will be able to explore a new story about Guybrush Threepwood.

Check out the full Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct presentations below. What games are you most excited for? I think South of midnight it’s my winner at the moment.
