STAR WARS: ANDOR Creator Tony Gilroy Talks George Lucas Calling to Tell Him He Loves ROGUE ONE

Star Wars fans certainly enjoyed the story that Tony Gilroy told in Lucasfilm Star Wars: Andor series. I think it’s safe to say that none of the fans expected the show to be this good. It’s one of the best Star Wars projects that have been developed and we are all waiting for the second and final season to be made and released.

The Andor series is a spin-off from Gilroy Rogue One: A Star Wars Storyand focuses on the character of Cassian Andor, by which he is played Diego Luna. A rogue one it was great Star Wars movie, and because of that movie, Gilroy got a call from Star Wars creator George Lucas to tell him how much he loved him.

During an interview with Deadline, Gilroy opened up about his experience playing in the Star Wars sandbox and shared what it was like for him to get a call from Lucas. He said:

“George Lucas called me after Rogue, I had a 45 minute conversation with him after he saw Rogue, and that was the only time I spoke to him. He loved it. Really. He had a lot to say that I… It was like a phone call from the president.

What an experience it must have been for Gilroy to talk to Lucas! I wonder what other writers and directors got calls from Lucas to tell them how much he loved their Star Wars projects! Lucas showed up on the set of The Mandalorian and, speaking of that experience, director of the second unit Sam Hargrave compared Lucas’ set visit to Yoda’s visit:

“I was there but, I mean, I was working on another stage. But I passed by, and I saw him there. It was actually — you’d think the real Yoda appeared. I mean, it’s kind of a fact. But there were more people that day than any other day in any other, you know, episode of the entire season. It was like I was at Comic-Con on the stage where he was. It was crazy.

I hope Andor it’s not the last Star Wars project Gilroy works on! He has to come back and tell another story set in this epic universe when he’s done Andor.
