Mark Hammill is ready to say goodbye to Luke Skywalker and believes his time has become iconic Star Wars character should finish. During a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Hamill said, “I’ve had my time, and that’s good. But that’s enough.
Since then the actor plays Luke Skywalker A new hopereleased in 1977. The actor recently reprized his role in the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker as well as inside The Mandalorian AND Boba Fett’s bookbut the character was aged in those.
While there’s a possibility Hamill will return as Luke, he doesn’t think there’s any reason to bring the character back. He said, “Well, never say never. I see no reason to do this. Put it this way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell that they don’t need Luke anymore.
Hamill previously said he doesn’t think Lucasfilm needs to tell any more Luke Skywalker stories, but if they do, he thinks they should recast the role with an age-appropriate actor. He explained, “People say, ‘Oh, now you’re going to be able to do a whole series of Luke after Return of the Jedi.’ I said, “I don’t think so.” First of all, they don’t need to tell those stories, but if they do, they might find an age-appropriate actor.”
With the Rey Skywalker movie currently in development, Hamill may be asked to return as the Force Ghost. When asked if he would be open to reprising his role in the next Rey Skywalker film, potentially as Force Ghost, he said, “One thing you learn working for Lucasfilm: everything is confidential. So if I was involved, I couldn’t tell you. And if I wasn’t involved, I couldn’t tell you. So, I don’t know. We’ll all find out together, I guess.
Would you like to see Hamill continue playing Luke Skywalker or are you ready to see him retire as the character?
