It looks like the Sanderson sisters will be back in spooky action with Hocus Pocus 3. Disney+ is developing the film and Bette Midler, Kathy NajimyAND Sarah Jessica Parker they should come back and reprise their roles.
The news was confirmed by Sean BaileyPresident of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, confirmed the news in an interview with the New York Times.
This news is sure to excite fans of the franchise. The original film was released in 1993 and is a beloved classic film that families gather to watch every Halloween. The film follows a trio of witches who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenager on Halloween night.
In 2022 Hocus pocus 2 was released on Disney+ and brought back the original cast. That sequel wasn’t as good as the original and received mixed reactions from fans. But it was a hit for Disney+ and set an audience record of 2.7 billion minutes watched.
While promoting the sequel, Bette Midler talked about returning to the franchise to play her character again and also teased the third film by saying, “I don’t know. I’m envious of other actors who have franchises and I was hoping for a sequel to First Wives Club but we never got it. After 30 years with no Hocus Pocus sequel, I’ve always been envious of people who get to play their favorite character more than once. The fact that we finally managed to do this, after 30 years of promoting the idea, I’m glad we did. I would love to have a franchise, especially a character that I love to play.
Midler continued: “If there was a third, of course, I would sign, but I don’t know how. I can’t imagine what the story would be but I love Winifred, Sarah, Mary and our relationship. It’s good for women. We stick together through hell and high water, but we cause havoc, and not many women cause that much havoc!
