Warner Bros. has announced that they are selling Richard Donneroriginal from 1978 Superman as NFT packets. While NFTs are still down right now, it’s currently a $3 billion industry and WB is still looking for ways to cash in on it with collectors.

Warner Bros. is trying some new things with its home entertainment business model by implementing NFTs, which verify the ownership and authenticity of digital content. Collectors can buy, sell and trade NFTs on Warner Bros.’ online marketplace, powered by content blockchain technology provider Eluvio.

THE Superman Web3 Movie Experience is described as a “multimedia NFT that includes the movie in 4K Ultra HD format, plus extras like image galleries and artist renderings by well-known DC artists. The studio hopes to generate excitement among NFT aficionados and DC aficionados, to make money on initial sales, and to foster an engaged fan community with long-term upside potential.

It will be available for general purchase starting Friday, June 9, with early access on June 8 for previous Warner Bros. NFT buyers, at web3.wb.com for a limited time, “an artificial scarcity designed to drive sales of the bundles, which will cost $30 for the Standard Edition and $100 for the Premium Edition.Customers can purchase them using a credit card or cryptocurrency once they’ve created an Eluvio NFT media wallet that serves as a “digital vault” and allows consumers to stream and view the content.

This Superman NFT is the second installment in the ‘WB Movieverse’ following last year’s first of its kind The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition) NFT Movie Bundle.

Michelle Munson, CEO and co-founder of Eluvio, said in a statement: “For the fans of this beloved and iconic film, Superman: The Movie is first released as a Web3 exclusive film and immersive digital collectible.

Here are the details on the two editions of Superman Web3 Movie Experience:

  • Standard Edition ($30, on sale for one week from 8:00 am ET June 9 to 7:59 am ET June 16): Includes interactive location-based navigation menu, Superman: The Movie Theatrical Version, special features released in earlier and an image gallery with still and behind-the-scenes images.

  • Premium Edition ($100, on sale for 24 hours from 8:00 am ET June 9 to 7:59 am ET June 10): Includes three different variants available for purchase separately – Truth, Justice, and Hope – each with a illustration of Christopher Reeves ‘ Superman by one of three DC artists: Ivan Reiss, Ben Oliver or Bill Sienkiewicz. Each variation includes an interactive, explorable location-based navigation menu and three feature-length versions: Superman: The Movie Theatrical Version; Superman: The Movie Expanded Director’s Cut; and Superman: The Movie Extended TV Edition. The pack also includes previously released special features, image galleries featuring costumes and detail images from the Warner Bros. archive, and behind-the-scenes footage.

Early access to all editions of the Superman Web3 Movie Experience will be available June 8 for DC Bat Cowl NFT owners at 8:00 AM ET; to DC3 owners at 11 a.m. ET; and to owners of The Lord of the Rings Web3 Movie Experience at 2 PM ET.

Purchasers of the Superman Web3 Movie Experience will also receive a free voucher code for a DC3 Super Power Pack: Series Superman from the DC NFT Marketplace (nft.dcuniverse.com), offering three randomly selected Superman comics with rarities ranging from “Common” to “Legendary.” Packs are timed drops, open edition, limited to one per account. WB says it will be rolling out new theme packs every few weeks.

Customers who purchase one of the NFT Superman Movie Bundles can watch, collect, and/or sell them on the Movieverse Marketplace, which is powered by the Eluvium Content Blockchain. The firms say what is noteworthy is that the core digital assets along with the derived NFTs are all on the blockchain, not just the token (NFT) itself.

According to Eluvio, its blockchain architecture is more efficient than traditional content streaming and distribution systems because it significantly reduces storage requirements and network usage. The Eluvio Content Blockchain also uses what the company calls a “proof of authority” ecological consensus, which avoids the high power consumption used in computational “proof of work” blockchains.
