Sony Pictures Animation has released a great new clip from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The scene focuses on the villain Spot (Jason Schwarzman) who robs a convenience store and gets into a scuffle with the manager. Miles Morales aka Spider-Man shows up as things continue to escalate.

Spot looks like he’s going to be a fun villain! Director Joaquim Dos Santos spoke of bringing the place into history, saying:

“Pretty early on we knew Spot was going to be our main villain,” Dos Santos explained. “Without a great villain, who you can kind of figure out with their storyline, you don’t really have a strong story for your main character. So he’s kind of the great opposite to Miles. And his living ink is really just, I think which we’ve all said is not just an effect. It’s art come to life. It’s something that can only really happen in animation. You can picture Spot as a dude in a sock in a live-action Spider-Man movie. Not it’s going to work. It just won’t work. So it’s the art that comes to life. It’s the inkwell being poured onto the page. It all goes back to some sort of comics and comic book art.”

Director Kemp Powershe went on to say that a villain like Spot has given Spider-Verse a lot of potential when it comes to story and style, saying:

“From the beginning it seemed like endless potential, both visually and in character arc. Because you know by the way it’s not a costume, that’s his skin. a polka-dot dress. That’s actually her skin. So you know, Dr. Ohnn Spot’s arc is one that really completes, without giving away the story, really completes Miles’ journey in this film very well.”
