Agent Phil Coulson was a key part of the MCU’s first phase, but after he was killed off The Avengers and resurrected within Agents of SHIELDthings got weird and it wasn’t really clear what his place in the MCU was.
Actor Clark Gregg he recently commented on whether or not he will reprise his role during an interview with The Cosmic Circus at Motor City Comic Con 2023. When a fan asked if there is any chance of seeing him again as Coulson, he said:
“There’s always the possibility that… I mean, you know, it’s a multiverse.”
Gregg was also asked if Coulson, or a Skrull impersonating him, could appear in the upcoming Disney+ show Secret Invasion. To that, the actor replied, “Well, they confirmed he was a Skrull all along, right?” When told no, he said:
“Okay, maybe not. No I do not know. No, I think she was a real person. I can barely keep track of all the things he has become, or could look like again. But I think he was, what made him, I don’t know what, stand out or connect with the fans was that he was very, very human.
Gregg obviously has no idea what’s going on with Marvel these days, and while Marvel could easily bring him back with the multiverse at stake, I wouldn’t bet it happens. I think fans have gotten used to Coulson not being around, and there’s really no reason to bring him back at this point.
Regardless, would you like to see Agent Coulson return?
