The film producers of BARBIE tried to bring in WONDER WOMAN star Gal Gadot

The upcoming Barbie looks like it’s going to be a surprisingly good time. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the movie when it was first announced, but it sure as hell wasn’t what the movie was going to be! It will take the audience on a wild and silly adventure!

The film also managed to assemble an impressive ensemble cast led by Margot Robbie AND Ryan Goslingbut there was another great actress they tried to get on board… the Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot! Unfortunately, they weren’t able to make it happen.

Robbie herself shared this little tidbit during an interview with Vogue explaining why they wanted Gadot in the film, saying:

“Gal Gadot is the energy of Barbie. Because Gal Gadot is so incredibly beautiful, but don’t hate her for being so beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastic and kind, it’s almost silly. It’s like right before be a fool.”

Gadot sure would have been perfect for that world! The rest of the cast includes Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Kate McKinnon (Saturday night live), Ariana Greenblatt (Love and monsters), Issa Rae (Insecure), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim versus the world), Hari Nef (Transparent), Will Ferrell (Saturday night live), Kingsley Ben-Adir, Elena Mirren, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon AND, America Ferrara. Then, there is John Cenawho plays a mermaid version of Ken!

When it comes to the idea for the story, director Greta Gervig she said during the Mattel tour, she was surprised to learn how different the entire line of dolls called Barbie was, noting, “Now all dolls are Barbie. Everyone is Barbie and Barbie is everyone. Philosophically, I was like, ‘Well, now this is interesting.'” This helped with “the expansive idea of self that we could all learn from.”

For over 62 years, “Barbie has guided girls on the path of self-discovery and helped them imagine the possibilities. After more than 180 inspiring careers, Barbie, along with her friends and family, continue to inspire and empower the next generation of girls who can be anything.

The film will hit theaters on July 21, 2023.T
