DreamWorks Animation has released a new trailer for its upcoming fantasy adventure film Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken. The film is described as a “hilariously heartfelt action-comedy about a shy teenager who discovers she is part of a legendary royal line of mythical sea krakens and that her destiny, deep beneath the oceans, is greater than she imagined.” she had ever dreamed of.”

The story follows sweet and clumsy 16-year-old Ruby Gillman (Wool Condor), who “desperately wants to fit in at Oceanside High, but mostly just feels invisible. She’s teaching math to her skater crush (Jaboukie Young-White), who seems to admire her only for her fractals, and is prevented from hanging out with the cool kids at the beach because her overprotective supermom (Tony Colletta), forbade Ruby to enter the water.

However, “when she breaks her mother’s rule #1, Ruby will discover that she is a direct descendant of the Kraken warrior queens and is destined to inherit the throne from her towering grandmother (Jane Fonda), the warrior queen of the seven seas.

The Krakens “are sworn to protect the world’s oceans from the vain, power-hungry sirens who have battled with the Kraken for eons. There’s one major and immediate problem with this: the beautiful and popular new girl in school, Chelsea (Anni Murphy) appears to be a mermaid. Eventually Ruby will have to embrace who she is and go big to protect those she loves most.

The film stars a great cast which also includes Colman Domingo (Fear the walking dead) as Ruby’s supportive father, Sam Richardson (Look) as Ruby’s enthusiastic uncle, e Chapman blue (Dads advice) as Ruby’s cute little brother. Supporting cast includes Will Forte (The last man on earth), Nicole Byer (Nailed it!), Lisa Koshy (Lisa upon request), Young Ramona (I have never), Edward Franco (Stranger things), Echo Kellum (Arrow), AND Emma Chamberlain (Everything is alright podcasts).

It was directed by Kirk DeMicco (Alive, The Croods) and produced by Kelly Cooney Cilella (Trolls World Tour, Trolls), with Faryn Pearl (The Croods: A New Era, Trolls world tour) as co-director. The film is written by South Park producer Pam Brady (Lady Dynamite) AND Brian C Brown (Briarpatch) AND Elliot DiGuiseppi (Lucy in the sky).
