FAST X Director Tells Fans Not to Expect a ‘Regular Fast and Furious Movie’

Fast X director Louis Letterier want the fans of the Fast & Furious franchise to know that this recent film is unlike any other film in the franchise. Fans seem to have certain expectations for these films and during an interview with Uproxx, Leterrier warned:

“I mean, ‘Star Wars’ is a different thing, but I feel like here you know where it ends. Also, even from a taste point of view, I know what I love about the franchise and what I want to bring forward. So I was very much about that, about the characters , about bringing reality to life, bringing cars and racing to life, and all that stuff Yes, I agree with Michelle [Rodriguez]. Don’t go see this movie as a regular “Fast and Furious” movie. The emotion won’t be the same.”

Yeah, for me the emotion definitely wasn’t the same, and it’s not like any of the other films in the series. In my opinion it is the worst of the franchise. I have never seen such bad storytelling, acting and dialogue. I also think it’s funny that he mentioned restoring the cars and racing because the one road race they attempted to do wasn’t quite that good of a race.

One thing we saw in this film that we hadn’t seen before in the franchise was the breathtaking ending. In this regard, the director said:

“It really ends on a cliffhanger. But I wouldn’t have accepted it, I think nobody would have accepted it, if we hadn’t gotten to the end of the franchise. What we have, as we were on set, is basically understanding where this franchise is going to end. So, because we know that, we’re able to not only create this cliffhanger, but also seed all the elements we’ll need to fully develop the entire franchise into what we hope will be a very satisfying ending. Sad, but satisfying. Then, we’re able to do all those things, because we knew where we were going. If you don’t know where you’re going, it’s impossible. I never understand how movies can be greenlit without that. I’m like, okay, you’re heading to a catastrophe.

I have no problem with cliffhanger endings. I’m just sad that it looks like this fun franchise is going to end in catastrophe. Fast X definitely not a regular Fast & Furious movie because I’m not sure the franchise knows what it is anymore, and there’s a reason why the franchise Justin Lin saved Fast X. He knew he was going to suck.
