A teaser trailer has been released for a crime thriller set in China titled Only the river flows. The story centers on a police chief who is investigating a series of murders in a riverside town in a rural village in China in the 1990s.
A woman’s body is found by the river. “Ma Zhe (Zhu Yilong), chief of the criminal police, leads the investigation into the murder which quickly leads to an obvious arrest. His superiors hasten to congratulate him and urge him to close the case and move forward, but several clues push Ma Zhe to dig deeper into the hidden behaviors of his fellow citizens.
I love watching these kinds of movies, and this one looks like it’s worth a look! It is based on a short story by Yu Hua.
The film comes from the director Wei Shujun (Striding into the wind AND Ripples of life). The film will premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
