Fast X, the latest entry in the adrenaline-pumping franchise, roars across the screen with an unparalleled level of silliness. I have been a huge fan of this franchise since its launch and have supported it and been excited to watch the movies but the franchise has lost its way.
Normally I can enjoy and embrace the calculated mayhem and automotive madness these movies deliver. However, Fast X takes the franchise’s escapades into a whole new realm of unapologetic absurdity. After seeing the film, I can understand why the director Justin Lin has left the franchise! I really can’t believe how bad the script was for this movie!
Look, I understand that people don’t go to these movies for the script and the story. They go to watch the action packed mayhem. I understand that fans enjoy action, which defies all known laws of physics and logic. But the movies of the past seemed to make sense of it all, there was a decent narrative quality and ridiculously charming but the franchise has lost that. F9 it was just the beginning of the franchise’s downfall.
Fast X it’s the beginning of the end, and while I’ve enjoyed most of the movies in the series, this is the worst ever, and it made me a little sad! It all got too silly as the franchise continued to try to consistently outdo the action spectacle of the previous films.
Now, it’s also talked about a lot Jason Momoathe film’s feisty villain, Dante Reyes. Many people praise Momoa and the character, but I thought he was one of the more annoying and ridiculous characters in the franchise. I couldn’t take this villain seriously and found myself rolling my eyes every time he was on screen. It’s like he’s entered the mind of a deranged 13-year-old. I do not know! Other people seem to like what he did, so maybe you will like him too.
As for the rest of the cast, the bad acting is on par with the franchise. The more serious they try to act, the funnier it is. Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto channels his inner philosopher once again, delivering lines that would make Socrates question his life choices. The banter between the film’s characters feels like a silly game of skill, where the goal is to outdo each other in delivering the most absurd and over-the-top jokes possible, and do so with a straight face.
Don’t get me wrong, the movie is hilarious, but that’s because of how bad the movie is. I mean, if you like these movies for the silliness of it all and the lazy writing, then this won’t disappoint. As for the action, there are some great turbo moments involving vehicular stunts that will put a smile on your face.
I don’t know, maybe I just outgrew these movies!? However, I still like most of the other movies in the series! I might just be having an existential crisis when it comes to the Fast and Furious franchise.
You might enjoy Fast X a lot more than me, so don’t take my word for it! If you are a fan of the franchise, go see the movie! Form your opinion! But, buckle up and hang on tight, it might not be the movie you were hoping for. Again, I can see why Lin dropped out of the franchise and was replaced by Louis Letterierand I guess he did his best with what he had to work with.
