Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd discuss the possibility of a new BACK TO THE FUTURE movie

I would seriously hate to see Hollywood try to reboot the Back to the Future franchise, but it could very well happen one day. It wouldn’t surprise me because, you know… Hollywood. If another Back to the Future the movie was made, though, what do the original stars do, Michael J. Fox AND Christopher Lloydthink about it?

Well, during a recent interview with Variety, Fox said: “I’m not a fanatic. Do what you want. It’s your movie. I’ve already been paid. But, at the same time, don’t think the Roberto Zemeckis-directed and Bob GaleThe scripted trilogy needs another film. He said: “I don’t think it’s necessary. I think Bob and Bob were really smart about it. I don’t think a reboot is needed because you’re going to clear something up? Will you find a better way to tell the story? I doubt it.”

When asked if he’d ever been approached about making a fourth film in the franchise to reprise his role as Marty McFly, Fox replied, “I’m sure someone has thought about it. But I was in the early stages of Parkinson’s at that point, so I don’t know if I would have wanted to go through it. Right after “Part Three” went well, there may have been some conversations about it, but I was never involved in them.

As for Christopher Lloyd, he’s poised for a sequel if anyone decides to continue his story as Doc Brown. He said, “I’d love to do a sequel, but I think Bob Zemeckis and [producer Steven] Spielberg heard that they told the story in the three episodes. But if someone has a brilliant idea that would justify a fourth film, it could happen.”

Lloyd went on to talk about working with Fox on the first three films and why they had such great on-screen chemistry: “There was a certain ease between us. I didn’t have to fight my way there with Michael. There has never been any conflict. He fit. And he never stopped. I feel like we could go and do it again after all these years and not have to think about Marty and Doc’s relationship.

I’d be fine never to see Back to the Future rebooted and as long as Robert Zemeckis, Bob Gale and Steven Spielberg are alive, I don’t think we’ll see that happen. What do you think? Would you be ready for a Back to the Future restart? I think a sequel would be nice, but that would be hard to do considering Fox has retired from acting.
