When you look back on the greatest movies of the 80s, you rarely come across a list that doesn’t include Back to the Future. The film, as well as its subsequent sequels, hold up and remain a favorite of movie fans around the world. But it took all these decades to star Michael J. Fox to realize how good he was in those movies.
In a recent interview with Empire to promote the new Fox documentary, Again: a film by Michael J. Foxthe actor explained the difficulty he had in starring in the network series Family tieswhile shooting at the same time Back to the Future. It was due to the workload that he thought her performance in the film suffered. He explained:
“I saw it when it came out, at the Cinerama Dome, which was crazy, then I didn’t see it in its entirety until a couple of years ago. It was Christmas. We were decorating the tree… I went to get something from the kitchen and was away quite a while. Tracy came and she found me and I was watching TV. I said, ‘Look, Back to the Futureit’s on TV! You know what, I’m really good at this!’ She said, “Yes, we know.” “Well, why didn’t you say that? Myself?!’”
He went on to talk about how he didn’t know the movie would be a hit:
“I thought all of this would soon be over. I figured they’d see what I’d done, I’d go back to the back of the pack and start over. When he came out, he was in London and he soon noticed Back to the Future it was a huge success. “My agent said, ‘You don’t understand. This is the greatest thing in the world.’ My first instinct was: ‘I have to go back to America! There are girls to meet!’”
And the rest is history. Fox also described his portrayal of two other films by her in the interview, saying:
“Casualties Of WarI felt that movie was really misunderstood,” he says of Brian De Palma’s Vietnam War film. “He’s never had a good shake.” Meanwhile, the success of some remains baffled. “There is a cult of Teenage wolf out there. This needs to be checked,” she jokes. “It needs to be monitored.”
Hey I loved it Teenage wolf like a child! And no Back to the Future, but it’s funny. Maybe Fox should revisit that too.
