The Guardians of the Galaxy are a group of fictional superheroes appear in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Their original lineup and backstory has been altered several times over the years, but here’s an overview of their best-known origin, which has also been used in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films.

In its most popular incarnation, the Guardians of the Galaxy formed in the 31st century. In the distant future, Earth is threatened by an alien race known as the Badoon. In this context, an astronaut named Vance Astro embarked on a long-term space journey with the aim of finding a way to save humanity.

During his journey, Vance Astro encountered other beings who were also fleeing the Badoon and joined him in his mission. These individuals included Yondu, an alien of the Centaurian species; Charlie-27, a human genetically engineered to live in high gravity; and Martinex, a crystal from an icy planet called Pluto. Together, they formed the Guardians of the Galaxy to fight the Badoon and protect the cosmos.

In the years, the Guardians of the Galaxy have had many incarnations and have had different members, including iconic characters like Star-Lord (Peter Quill), Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon and Groot. However, in its best-known origin, the team was formed as a response to the threat of the Badoons in the distant future.

Comics and movies present a different take on the Guardians of the Galaxy

The journey of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the MCU began in 2014 with the film of the same name directed by James Gunn (Disney Plus). Unlike the comics, the film version of the Guardians had some changes. In the MCU, Peter Quill aka Star-Lord is a space adventurer in search of a mysterious orb coveted by many galactic factions.

During your search, Peter Quill meets Gamora, a genetically enhanced assassin, Drax the Destroyer, a warrior obsessed with revenge on Ronan the Accuser, Rocket Raccoon, a cunning genetically engineered raccoon, and Groot, a tree-like humanoid ent with incredible abilities. Together they form an unlikely alliance and decide to use their individual abilities to protect the galaxy.

The film features Ronan the Accuser as the main antagonist. This powerful villain, a member of the Kree race, seeks the power of the orb to destroy Xandar, the home planet of the Nova Corps. The Guardians of the Galaxy unite to stop Ronan’s destructive plans. and save the galaxy from its menace.

The soundtrack was a distinction for Guardians of the Galaxy

A distinguishing feature of Guardians of the Galaxy in the MCU is its soundtrack. Music plays a central role in the story, as Peter Quill carries around a cassette player with a mix of popular songs from the 70s and 80s, passed down from his mother. Iconic songs become a key element of the film’s tone and style, adding a uniquely nostalgic feel to the experience.
