James Gunn reveals Kevin Feige’s reaction to the atomic bomb in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

James Gunn came out and made one of the best movies in the MCU with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and I’m a little concerned that this could be the last great Marvel movie. I hope not, but with how fast Marvel is making movies these days, the quality of cinema has gone down significantly. Gunn will also become the director who introduced the atomic bomb to the MCU!

During a recent interview with JOE.ie, Gunn brought this up and was legitimately concerned that he would be forced to remove the word from Kevin Feigebut of course that never happened.

The scene with the nuke occurs when the Guardians team members are rushing to get into a car and Chris PrattStar-Lord yells at Nebula (Karen Gillan) to open the door. According to Gunn, the scene wasn’t planned, but at the time of directing, the director pressed Pratt to say so.

Gunn said, “We put it into the cut and it was so damn fun. And I was like, “Oh man, Disney is going to make me take it off, right?” They never made me do anything. And I’m like, ‘This is the first time they’ve ever made me do anything, and I’m going to be disappointed.'”

As for how Kevin Feige responded to the scene, Gunn said he thought it was funny! He explained: “I said ‘What about that atomic bomb?’ AND [Kevin Feige] it’s like, ‘Well, you know, the Russo brothers had one [Avengers: Endgame] at one point, and, you know, it got a lot of applause, but ultimately, the Russo brothers were like… They didn’t want that to be their legacy. And Kevin said ‘if you want it to be your legacy, then sure.’ And I said, “Kevin, if you think you’re scaring me instead of enticing me even more to put him in the movie, you’re crazy.” And that’s how it happened. And then he just burst out laughing.”

So, Gunn’s Marvel legacy will be the director who put the nuke in a Marvel movie. Not really, though, because they’ve seriously made a great MCU trilogy!
