The Lord of the Rings it was an epic trilogy that has survived as one of the most beloved film trilogies of all time. The movies are so good, but with the scale and scope of the story and the director’s type of storytelling Peter Jackson assumed, there was a fair share of on-set mishaps and injuries, and plenty of stories for the actors to tell.

One of the craziest behind-the-scenes mishaps occurred during the making of the second film, The lord of the rings: the two towers. While filming the film’s most complicated action sequence, and one of the toughest in the trilogy, The Battle of Helm’s Deep, Jackson explained in a 2002 interview that the Aragorn actor Vigo Mortensen was the driving force behind what made that scene great:

“[Mortensen] he just worked relentlessly to make that scene what it was.

But unfortunately, this was also the moment Mortensen suffered a terrifying blow to the face:

“One of the things that happened with Viggo [the Helm’s Deep sequence] there was a moment when one of the Orc swords struck him in the face. Hit him in the mouth. And his incisor broke at the root. How it literally broke in half and fell on the floor! [Mortsensen] immediately ripped off [his tooth] up and said ‘Give me some super glue! We have to get back in and move on.’ She was screaming for glue!”

Thankfully, however, he was rushed in to receive emergency dental care. But what a soldier though!
