CBS has released the first trailer for its upcoming film Matlock reboot series, starring the Oscar and Emmy Award winner Katie Bates as Madeline Matlock, an aging lawyer who uses her wits and charm to win cases and make the system work. It sounds like a silly show, but I have no doubt that the legal process will find her audience.
In the series, Bates portrays Madeline “Matty” Matlock, “a brilliant septuagenarian who achieved success as a young girl and decides to rejoin the workforce of a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and cunning tactics to win the causes. Matty is assigned to Olympia (Skye P. Marshall), a senior lawyer and prominent rainmaker with a thirst for justice. Olympia’s ex-husband Julian (Jason Ritter), the son of the company boss, is intrigued by Matty and his smart abilities. As Matty struggles to establish himself in his high-stakes new world, he works alongside the firm’s younger partners: the charismatic Billy (David Del Rio) and the ambitious Sarah (Leah Lewis).
The original Matlock it ran from 1986 to 1995 and starred Andy Griffith (The Andy Griffith Show) as Ben Matlock, a widower who opens his own law firm in Atlanta after years as a public defender.
Matlock will air “early” Sundays on CBS
