Samuel L.JacksonNick Fury’s had a long journey in the MCU and that journey will continue in upcoming Marvel projects The wonders AND Secret invasion. But, in his journey, there are Marvel movies where you would expect him to show up, but he was nowhere to be found. Jackson has been thinking about these movies and wondering where Nick Fury was during some of these big Marvel events.
During an interview with Empire Magazine, while promoting his Secret invasion series on Disney+, Jackson said:
“I was trying to figure out where you were during Civil War, when the kids were fighting and I wasn’t there to say, ‘Everybody go to your room.’ Where was I during Endgame? It’s harder for me not to be there than to be there.”
These are certainly reasonable questions! You’d think he would have been part of those stories, but as it turns out, why he wasn’t included Civil war it’s because the writers didn’t want to put Fury in a position where he would have to choose sides. Christopher Mark explained:
“We didn’t want him to take one side or the other, because that’s not his place in the universe. And then we didn’t want another, ‘Is he still with the government? Are you against the government but do you support the government?’ It was supposed to be the potential for a lot more polemic discussions that the film had no room for.”
So they just pretended Fury wasn’t around… ok. I think adding Fury into the mix would have added a very interesting dynamic to the whole thing, but I guess the writers didn’t want to try and figure that out. There was such a hard black and white line drawn in the sand in that story, and Fury would add a little gray area to that.
As for not getting involved Avengers: Finale, is easy to explain, as it was dusted off in the Avengers: Infinity War post-credits scene. He is back in the last moments of Game overhowever, during Tony Stark’s funeral sequence.
Secret invasion is set in the current MCU, “Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill, and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an impending Skrull invasion and save humanity.
The series is also starring Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulder, Martin Freemann, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneranwith Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman, e Don Cheadle.
Secret invasion will premiere June 21, exclusively on Disney+.
