Disney is officially moving forward with a sequel to the classic 2003 body swapping comedy Crazy Friday. Jamie Lee Curtis AND Lindsay Lohan they should reprise their roles.
Curtis and Lohan have both been open to reprising their roles for a sequel. Curtis previously came out and said she would like to return for a sequel, and she brought the idea to Disney. She also shared, “There’s no scheduled date, but we’re talking. People are talking. The right people are talking.”
Curtis also said that she and Lohan have discussed their possible big-screen reunion, saying, “I’m 64 in one week and Lindsay is 36…[A sequel] it lends itself so well. We both commit and it’s not up to us to do it. It’s Disney to make and I think they’re interested and we’re talking.
All speeches led to the development of the project and Elise Hollander (Bird man) is currently writing the screenplay.
The original film tells the story of a mother and daughter who magically switch bodies and must live each other’s lives for a day. Anna Coleman (Lohan) is a rebellious teenager who has trouble getting along with her mother, Tess (Curtis), a workaholic therapist and her bully. After a heated argument, they both make a wish at the same time and wake up the next morning in each other’s bodies.
They must navigate each other’s lives, with Anna dealing with Tess’s patients and professional responsibilities, while Tess must attend Anna’s band rehearsals and deal with her school and social life. Along the way, they learn to understand and appreciate each other’s struggles and come to a deeper understanding of their relationship.
The film is a heartwarming and entertaining story that explores the generation gap between parents and teenagers.
