Disney+ and Hulu will merge into one app this year

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently announced during the company’s quarterly earnings call that Disney+ and Hulu will merge into a single app later this year. For now, this will only happen in the US.

Iger explained, “While we continue to offer Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ as standalone options, this is a logical progression of our DTC offerings that will open up more opportunities for advertisers by giving bundled subscribers access to more robust and streamlined content, resulting in greater audience engagement and ultimately leading to a more unified streaming experience.”

The combination of all of these will certainly make it easier to browse your checklists and scroll through your viewing options, but they won’t force you to have both if you don’t want them.

This decision also comes after Disney+ was reported to have lost over 4 million subscribers in 2023. The service is definitely losing steam.

It was also revealed by Disney’s Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy that Disney+ will “remove some content from our streaming platforms” in the coming months. He added that they are “in the process of reviewing the content of our DTC services to align with strategic changes in our approach to content curation.”

I subscribe to all of them, but most of the original content on Disney+ is just not very good. They have some things worth looking into Star Wars and the Marvel franchises, but a lot of other things aren’t very good.
