Jacobs explained in an interview with THR, “It’s definitely the most complex delivery Marvel has ever done.” He went on to say that the goal is “to give all exhibitors in the United States and most international territories [the ability to] maximize screen size for your audience. So wherever you go to see it, you’ll see the best version.

Jacobs goes on to share that Marvel releases have had 500 releases and so on Avatars 2 had a record 1,065 releases! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 tops 600, which is apparently high even by Marvel’s standards. He went on to say:

“Marvel has almost become legendary in the post-production community for pushing deadlines and waiting until the last minute to make the film the best it can be. [But] the movie was pretty solid. It was the film he was going to make in the beginning. … We didn’t have to chase a lot of craziness and the visual effects came in a rational and sane way. We’ve all been like pinching ourselves.

All these different versions are adapted to the format of the screens of each theatre, but Jacobs explains that it goes further, adding: “Also, because [Gunn’s] he got this extra space, he basically said, “I’m going to go in and out creatively.” [and you’ll] suddenly you see something more immersive and bigger, and it will fill your screen.’”

Apparently, James Gunn likes to use aspect ratio as part of his storytelling process, and everyone involved with the film just had time to make it work. As a director, he’s so much to supervise, but it felt like this movie actually had a smooth production process. The movie was not rushed and you can tell because the movie is so good!
