Disney’s 20th Century Studios has released four new character posters for the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’S The boogeyman. The posters tease a monster in the closet that will terrify the two sisters in the story. I recently saw the movie at CinemaCon, and it’s a great horror movie! It was way scarier than I expected.

In the film, “High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are devastated by the recent death of their mother and don’t get much support from their father, Will, a therapist who is coping with his own grief. When a desperate patient shows up unexpectedly at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.
This movie was originally supposed to be released on Hulu, but after successful showings with test audiences, they decided to release it in theaters, which was 100% the right choice! After seeing the movie and how scary it is, this is definitely a movie that will be fun to watch on the big screen with an audience!
Director Rob Savage recently revealed that one of the people who could have helped the theatrical release was Stephen King himself. After showing the film to King, the director shared what King had to say about it. He told CB:
“When the film tested so well, we decided it was time to get his input, so we rented his favorite movie theater in Maine. He knows what he doesn’t like, and if we screwed up his story, he would have told us But he sent a nice quasi-essay about how much he liked the movie And then the next day I wake up and there’s an email in my inbox from Steve King and he said he’s still thinking about the movie He said a few other nice things and the nicest thing he said was, ‘They’d be fucking stupid to release this on stream and not in theaters.'”
One of the stars of the film, David Dastmalchian, previously praised the film, calling it “one of the scariest movies” he’s seen in a long time. I like its sound! I’m actually really excited about this movie.
The film was directed by Rob Wild (Guest) from a script by ScottBeck AND Bryan Woods (A quiet place) AND Marco Heyman (Black Swan). He is the protagonist Sofia Thatcher (Yellow Jackets), Chris Messina (Birds of prey), Vivian Lyra Blair (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Marine Ireland (The Umbrella Academy), Madison Hu (Bizarardvark), Lisa Gay Hamilton (Vice), AND David Dastmalchian (Dune).
The film is produced by Shawn Levi (Stranger things), Dan Levi (I arrive), AND DanCohen (The Adam Project). The boogeyman will be released in theaters on June 2, 2023.
