Director Taika Waititi has found another film project he wants to direct while in talks to direct an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s New York Times bestselling sci-fi novel, Clear and the sun. The project is staged at Sony’s 3000 Pictures with Dahvi Waller write the script.
The story follows Klara, “a robot girl created to keep teenagers from feeling lonely. This is the story of how she tries to save a family of humans that she lives with from heartbreak.
It is explained that Klara is an “Artificial Friend with marked observational qualities, who from her place in the shop carefully observes the behavior of those who enter to browse, and of those who pass by on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her.
The story “offers a look at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator, and one that explores the fundamental question: What does it mean to love?”
The report claims that the role of Klara will be one of the most coveted parts in Hollywood for any actress in her 20s, so it will be interesting to see who ends up landing the role.
This looks like a big project for Waititi, who has developed several projects including a Star Wars film with Lucasfilm, a live-action adaptation of Akira for Warner Bros., and his next upcoming film will be The next target wins. There are conflicting reports as to whether the next film he will make will be Akira OR Star Wars. We’ll just have to wait and see.
David Heyman is producing the film for Heyday Films.
