EXCLUSIVE: After help restart the ghostbusters Sony Pictures franchisee Jason Reitman reunites with the studio to tell the behind-the-scenes story of the premiere of one of television’s most iconic shows. Sources tell Deadline that Reitman is directing an untitled original screenplay for Sony based on true accounts of the opening night Saturday night live. Reitman will work with him again Ghostbusters: Life After Death Co-writer Gil Kenan, who co-writes the screenplay.

The film is set on October 11, 1975, when a wild group of young comedians and writers changed television forever. The script is based on an extensive series of interviews that Reitman and Kenan conducted with all the living cast, writers and crew.

Reitman and Kenan are currently in production on the Sony Pictures sequel Ghostbusters: Life After Death, directed by Kenan. After the success of Ghostbusters: Life After DeathReitman and Kenan have signed a full production deal with Sony Pictures.

Along with Reitman and Kenan, longtime partners Jason Blumenfeld and Erica Mills will produce, currently on the Ghostbusters: Afterlife Sequel.
