Campbell recently retweeted a fan asking DC Studios to contact Campbell about a Kingdom come cover design by Alex Ross showing the iteration of the Superman story attached. Campbell replied with a note saying that he was “DM-ing [his] number.”
Campbell previously appeared in a DC project as Bill Church Jr. in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Supermanand also wrote the recent comic mini-series The sergeant. Rock against the army of the dead. But it sure would be crazy and fun to see him play an older version of Superman.
I don’t think Gunn or Safran would ever have cast him in the role, and by the time they actually get there, if they ever do, Campbell will probably be in his older Superman phase. But in several years, Henry Cavill would come of age.
Kingdom Come was a four issue limited series released by DC Comics in 1996. It was written by Marco Waid and illustrated by Alex Ross. The story is set in the future DC Universe, where a new generation of superheroes, led by Magog, has replaced the classic heroes of the past.
Superman, retired after the death of Lois Lane and disillusioned with the violent methods of the new generation, returns to action to face his former protégé and the growing threat of a global conflict between superheroes and super-villains. Alongside Batman and Wonder Woman, he attempts to restore order and rekindle hope in a world that has lost its way.
Do you think DC Studio will ever adapt this story for the big screen? If so, who would you pick as Superman?
