Bel Powley has already achieved a lot in her relatively young career. She plays Miep Gies, an ordinary woman who finds herself in extraordinary circumstances when she is urged by her boss Otto Frank to hide him and his family from Nazi discovery during World War II. She did this from 1942 to 1944 when, sadly, they were finally found and shipped off to concentration camps. They all died except Otto, and Gies remained the key to what we know today The diary of Anne Frank because it was she who found it after the war and kept it for Otto, who would live with her and her husband Jan for another seven years.
