This is an interesting project for them to jump into. It was previously revealed that they had turned down an offer from James Gunn direct a DC film for DC studios. The filmmakers said at the time: “They offered us a project, but at the moment we decided not to accept it. We wanted to, yes, stick to our source material for the time being.
But now they’re directing a Street Fighter movie, which is definitely not source material. I just assume Legendary made them an offer they couldn’t refuse, and besides… it seems Street Fighter that would be a cool movie to make!
It was announced a few weeks ago that Legendary acquired the rights to Street Fighter and they immediately jumped into developing a movie! As a longtime fan of street fighterI’m excited that we will have a new film.
It’s still too early in development to know what the story will entail, but I think it’s safe to say that we’ll see a lot of familiar characters from the game fighting! I’m a big fan of what the Philippou brothers. did with Talk To Me, and I hope theirs street fighter the movie will be just as strong.
