Turning half an hour of DC footage into a two-hour Warner Bros preset at CinemaCon was the first trailer ever Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Filmmaker James Wan was unable to attend CinemaCon, and neither was Jason Momoa, but both appeared via video.
Wan said Aquaman 2 visits “brave, strange new worlds” in which it explores “interesting new characters.”
“It’s an action-adventure story with a very nice relationship between Arthur and Orm. Orm was a villain the first time, but this time Arthur needs him.
Very enthralled with Black Manta, serious talk of Aquaman having a new baby and the Black Trident enemy having a lot of power. The trailer opens with Aquaman contemplating life with Temuera Morrison’s Tom Curry near his lighthouse home. But there’s still plenty of drama and mayhem underwater as Aquaman battles a giant submarine and enemies on the underwater beach. “I will be a king who brings land and sea together,” says Momoa’s Aquaman. In the Arctic, there is action below the surface. In a fight scene, Aquaman tells Black Manta, “No one touches my brother but me.” At this point, Patrick Wilson’s King Orm says, “Don’t call me brother!” Says Black Tridet, the new enemy, “I will become Aquaman and destroy everything he holds dear!”
“Sometimes the most heroic thing is not giving up what you can do,” says Morrison’s character.
“If you lead,” King Orn tells Aquaman, “Atlantis will follow.”
Amber Heard’s Mera makes a cameo appearance, but in a fight scene.
Aquarius is the highest-grossing DC film to date at $1.1 billion. The sequel will be released on December 20.
