New Look at ‘The Little Mermaid’ Live Action; Disney may be preparing a sequel

‘The Little Mermaid’ returns to the big screen in its live-action version, an opportunity for a new generation to enjoy this classic Disney story, albeit with a lot of criticism due to the inclusion adaptations that have been made to the version to be presented on the big screen this 2023. With Rob Marshall to direct and Halle Bailey as Arielthis film promises to captivate viewers with its emotionality and power, or at least, that’s what is expected.

While many remember the original 1989 film, some forget that there was also a sequel and prequel titled ‘The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea’ and ‘The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning’ respectively. But what can we expect from live remake? Will she have the courage to expand the Little Mermaid universe? Before all these answers, total movies got an exclusive look at Ariel and Prince Eric, plus an interview with the director.

In an exclusive interview with Total Film, Rob Marshall says the story of “The Little Mermaid” has many interesting characters and subplots, which suggests that there are many stories within the story that could be explored in the future. But he also admits that it depends on how the film is received by the audience and how the story plays out in live-action.

It’s a classic story that has many characters and many interesting stories. I think it’s suitable for certain things. But you have to see how a film develops and how it goes… I think there is always the opportunity to find stories within stories. It’s always a wonderful thing,” says Marshall.

I’m glad we were able to bring it to live action, because it’s really a very powerful and emotional story,” adds the director.

When does the live action of “The Little Mermaid” air?

The film hits theaters on May 26 and we can already see some exclusive images from the film, including one where Halle Bailey can be seen as Ariel and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Ericher character’s love interest.

The live action ‘The Little Mermaid’ also stars Melissa McCarthy as the wicked sea witch Ursula and Javier Bardem as Ariel’s father, King Triton. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these talented actors bring some of the most iconic characters in Disney history to life.
