John Boyega will reprise his role as Finn in Rey Skywalker’s Star Wars film

Earlier this month it was announced that Daisy Ridley she was set to reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in a new Star Wars film that will follow the events of the sequel trilogy. It has now been reported that John Boyega will join her, reprising his role as Finn.

During the most recent episode of The Hot Mic Podcast, insider John Rocha shared that he’s heard from various sources that Boyega will be returning for the film. He said:

“I’ll tell you this. I’ll break it for myself. According to some sources I know, several sources contacted me because of this show. And they told me that they think and what they’re hearing is that John Boyega will be back for this movie.

Now, that’s far from a confirmation, but it would actually make sense for Boyega to be involved in the film. After it was announced, many fans on social media expected this to happen.

Rocha went on to note the problems Boyega had with the Star Wars the franchise was smoothed over after he met with the president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy to talk about things.

A few years ago a fan asked Boyego if he would be interested in returning to the franchise and he replied, “Lol, no thanks. I’ve moved on.” In another response, Boyega said, “Don’t play one role too long. I have more to offer than that.” But we all know money talks, and Disney and Lucasfilm could easily make him an offer he can’t refuse.

Boyega has been open about not being happy with how his character has been handled over the course of the franchise. The character definitely deserved a better story arc than he got with that trilogy. Maybe this movie will be an attempt to fix things. We’ll just have to wait and see.

The film follows the story of The Rise of Skywalker and will focus on Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order. Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (Mrs. Marvel) is attached to direct the film from a script written by Stefano Cavaliere (Peaky Blinders).
