ABC has renewed its hit medical drama The good doctor for a seventh season. This is really no surprise as the series is a huge hit for the network.

The good doctor is a medical drama series that follows the story of Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome who is recruited to work at the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. The show follows Dr. Murphy as he faces the challenges of being a surgical resident while also dealing with the social difficulties that come with his condition.
This is a decent, gripping, emotionally charged show that tackles important social and medical issues, all while delivering an interesting narrative. It’s not for everyone, but if you enjoy watching medical dramas, you’re probably already watching this one and happy to hear that it’s been picked up for a new season.
There is also a Good doctor in-development spinoff series titled the good lawyer, and it looks like it could actually be picked up. The good lawyer will center on Joni, a 20-year-old woman who battles OCD but is a brilliant lawyer. The character was introduced on The Good Doctor earlier this season. Here are the details about it:
“Relatively new to her top law firm, Joni, who is fun, eager, self-aware and a little anxious, is part of Shaun’s (Highmore) legal defense team. Despite her law school and bar exam, Joni’s OCD symptoms take a toll on her personal and professional life. Living with OCD, Joni has never wanted to be treated differently and is often embarrassed by her symptoms. She’s an accomplished lawyer, using her attention to detail, compulsive overthinking, and analytical skills as a superpower, but was forced to threaten to sue the firm (for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act) when they tried to fire her due to her peculiar behavior. Her role is listed as open to all ethnicities and abilities.
That spin-off is led by Kennedy McMann and Felicity Huffman, would mark the alumna of Desperate Housewives Felicity HuffmannIt’s back on TV.
The Good Doctor Season 6 finale airs Monday, May 1 on ABC.
