Things in the MCU have changed a lot since the exit of Marvel Studios Avengers: Finale, which closed the Infinity Saga. Since then, the movies that have been released have been hit and miss with fans, and I’m noticing that many more people are disappointed with the movies that Marvel is releasing. There is certainly a noticeable drop in quality, but there are fans who still enjoy them.

The most recently released film, which kicked off Phase 5, was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania, and that film was met with mixed reviews. I hope the movies get better and Avengers: Finale director Gio Russo he believes he will.
When asked about the new direction the MCU is taking, Russo encouraged fans to put their faith in the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige. He told Radio Times:
“There’s no one better at storytelling than Kevin Feige right now. If you’re going to bet on someone, bet on him. I think the kind of story that played out in the stages that we’ve been working on [was] a very specific type of story that concluded in those stages and now it’s time for a new story, and I think that’s the direction Marvel is heading in. They’re telling you a very different story, a very new story and I think audiences just need to be patient with the redirection because you can’t keep telling the same story over and over or you lose your audience.”
Russo went on to talk about the big swings Marvel is taking:
“I think they’re taking some really big swings and playing with tone and advocating for diversity as much as anyone else in the storytelling space right now and all of those things are huge wins for storytelling at scale.”
I understand what he’s saying, I’m fine with the story direction involving Kang the Conqueror, but the quality of the movies that tell that story could definitely be better. That script for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantimania it was kind of a mess.
Marvel will deliver an ambitious and complicated storytelling over the next few years. They’re playing with time travel and alternate universes, so they have to tell strong stories with great scripts that make sense so they can pull it off effectively.
