Hulu has released the first trailer for an Australian-set series titled The clearingwhich is described as a “gripping psychological thriller about a religious cult wreaking human havoc”.

This is a serial adaptation of the book The clearingwritten by JP Pomarewhich is described as a “haunting” and “atmospheric” thriller, and stars Teresa Palmar AND Guy Perce. The story is set against a ticking clock and pits a ruthless cult against a mother’s love, revealing that our darkest secrets are the hardest to leave behind.
The series is described as “blurring the lines between past and present, reality and nightmare. A woman is forced to face demons from her past to stop a cult from rounding up innocent children in the future.”
Sounds like it’s going to be a pretty dark and creepy series. The project was co-created by Elise McCredie (Strange Fits of Passion, Nowhere Boys, Sunshine, Stateless, Jack Irish) AND Matthew Cameron (Sun, Jack Irish). He is also the protagonist Miranda Otto, Julia Savage, Hazem Shammas, Mark Coles Smith, Kate Mulvany, Xavier Samuel, AND Claudia Carvan.
Hulu will make its debut The clearing series on May 24, 2023.
