In the 2022 original film, “During a vacation in Tuscany, a Danish family becomes instant friends with a Dutch family. Months later, the Danish couple receives an unexpected invitation. It doesn’t take long before the joy of reunion is replaced by misunderstanding. What was supposed to be an idyllic weekend slowly begins to unravel as Danes try to remain polite in the face of unpleasantness. The film is actually quite a traumatizing and disturbing film.

I imagine the remake will tell the same story, but most likely in an American setting. This should be a big project for McAvoy, and he’s been keeping busy. He recently starred in the third and final season of the HBO series His dark matters. He also appeared in a remake of the French thriller My childopposite Claire Foy, as well as starring opposite Sharon Horgan on BBC Two Together. McAvoy also plays Dream in the Audible Original The Sandman podcast series.

Universal Pictures will release the film on August 9, 2024.
