When playing long hours, players are stuck in the same spot, using the same equipment for a long time, barely getting up to get a snack (that’s basically me every Saturday night). When these types of nights happen so often, gamers can enjoy a long night of play much more when their gear is comfortable, sturdy, and performs well. DROP’s EPOS H3X gaming headset may not achieve the highest marks in every category, but the friendlier price point and reliable simplicity make it a good contender in the gaming headset battlefield.

The EPOX H3X sounds clear enough and has plenty of depth in its wrapped headphones. The sound quality, which is pretty much the most important part of the headphones, is very good. The difference between bass and treble is pleasing to the ears while still thrilling in any game. I wish there was a bit more bass overall, but for the price it’s quite acceptable.
Along with sound output, a gaming headset must have a quality microphone for friends to hear your screams above the glare of shotguns and grenades. Microphone quality is as clear as any cell phone in the last two or three years. The quality is very stable and good, but the ability to pick up subtle sounds or a quieter user is a bit poor, so make sure you don’t mumble too much during a firefight.
Finally, comfort needs to be addressed. I know price isn’t everything, but when you put them on for the first time, you know they aren’t the highest quality. They feel a little stiff and tight. But it could very well just be the shape of my head. However, they sit very well and comfortably on top of the head and over the ears for long stretches. I was pleasantly surprised to have no pain anywhere after using a relatively snug headset for long gaming sessions.
Overall, the EPOX H3X is a great headset that’s great for its price. It will be beaten by most things above its price range, but you’d probably be hard-pressed to find anything much better than it at an equal price. It works well, feels pretty good, and won’t have you eating Ramen Noodles as a meal for the next few months.
