President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy announced the big news today at the Star Wars Celebration in London. This is the Star Wars project that Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (Mrs. Marvel) was previously linked to direct. Damon Lindelof AND Justin Britt-Gibson he had written a script for it, but they ended up dropping the project after handing in his first draft, and now Stefano Cavaliere (Peaky Blinders) is writing the film.

The film follows the story of The Rise of Skywalker and will focus on Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order. I’m sure you all remember that Rey took on the Skywalker name at the end of The Rise of Skywalker.

This is a big deal, but it’s not surprising. I think a lot of fans thought that at some point some of the characters from the sequel trilogy would come back for other stories.

There aren’t any more details to share, but maybe this movie will actually happen. Kennedy announced several more Star Wars past film projects at Star Wars Celebration and then nothing ever happens with them. But, since this is tied into the sequel trilogy, and Ridley is on board to star, maybe this one actually has a chance of happening.

What do you think of Rey’s story continuing in a new one Star Wars movie? With Steven Knight writing the script, maybe there’s a chance it’ll be good. We’ll have to wait and see.
