The series is described as a “psychedelic journey into the world of real science. Matt Klinman and Zack Poitras play two stoner lab assistants who get drunk on science by literally smoking various subjects from a robotic bong (voiced by Paul Bettany) to launch into fictional realms filled with real facts and mind-blowing insights.

Bettany said in a statement, “It’s been a pleasure to work with Funny Or Die and the creators, Matt and Zach, on a project that is so opposite to anything I’ve done before. ‘Dr. Oh’ is their creation to which I tried to bring some kind of avuncular warmth. This is for those science fans with a sense of humor.”

Here are the details that have been shared for the first few episodes:

Episode 1 “A Trip to the Moon”: With NASA’s Artemis lunar missions on the horizon, Dr. Oh launches Matt and Zack into space to recreate the wild birth of the moon, crash a rocket into the moon to find ice, and discover the moon’s secret treasures on the surface… and underground.

Episode 2 “Human Kind Bud”: Zack learns he’s part Neanderthal, so he and Matt bring Dr. Oh to life to go back to when six different species of humans all walked the Earth at the same time! It’s a human family reunion that reveals why Homo sapiens are the only ones still partying.

Episode 3 “The Wet Web of the Trees”: Dr. Oh connects Matt and Zack to Tree Internet where trees use mushrooms to communicate, share resources and live in harmony… or not!? Matt and Zack hack into the root system and discover that this underworld is far more seedy than they could ever imagine.

Episode 4 “Aliens of Antiquity”: Dr. Oh is furious that Matt and Zack are watching a TV show about how aliens helped the ancient Egyptians, so he takes them back 3,000 years to show them how awesome the Egyptians really were – no aliens required. They also find out what “ithyphallic” means.

Episode 5 “Unlimited Life”: Doctor Oh sucks Matt and Zack into a video game so they can find out what it takes to defeat aging and never die. From breakout texts that drain your health bar to immortal animals to testicle-stealing rich men, it’s a wild quest for the cheat code to live forever.

The series will premiere on HBO Max on April 20 and on the Discovery Channel on April 26. Watch the trailer!
