DUNE director David Lynch says he’ll “never watch” Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation

While David Lynchadaptation of Dune is a classic film loved by fans, the director went through a difficult time to make the film. There were a lot of behind-the-scenes struggles that he had to face and challenges that he had to overcome. Dune it was his first major studio project and it ended up being a disappointment for him. It’s been nearly 40 years since that frustrating experience, but he’s still pretty bitter. In fact, he recently stated that he’ll never watch Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation. Talking to the French outlet Cahiers du Cinemafor Far Out, when asked about Villeneuve’s film Dune, Lynch replied, “I’ll never watch it, and I don’t even want you to tell me about it, ever.”

So it stopped that conversion pretty quickly! Lynch has previously talked about what it would be like to have a chance to restore his original vision for the film, but he also admitted how unlikely that is to happen:

“Dune – people said, ‘Don’t you want to go back and fiddle with Dune?’ And I was so depressed and disgusted by that, you know? I mean, I loved everyone I worked with; they were so amazing. I loved all the actors; I loved the crew; I loved working in Mexico; I loved everything but not i had final cut and i even loved dino [De Laurentiis], that he wouldn’t give me what I wanted. And Raffaella, the producer, who was her daughter – I loved her. But the thing was a horrible sadness and failure for me, and if I could go back inside I thought, well, maybe I would. But I mean, no… it’s not going to happen. “

It sucks that Lynch had such a bad experience, and I guess he doesn’t want to watch the recent adaptation because he doesn’t want to see, he wants to compare it to what he did. He just wanted to keep his original vision of Dune in his head.
