The director recently explained: “There is a direct connection between what happens in this story and the others. They are in the same world – this is not a parallel universe in any way. It’s happening after Faith’s film and after Sam’s, but in a world where those stories took place.
He also talked about this version of The Book of the Dead in this film, saying, “The book that is in this story is connected to the past. If we look Army of Darknessand the fact that there are three books: Sam used one, Faith used one, and I was like, ‘You know what, give me the third one, and let me go and tell an Evil Dead story in that context.’”
