The film is a ghost story set during the Depression and follows “an imaginative young boy living in a small town who befriends a mysterious drifter who may or may not have the supernatural ability to communicate with the dead.”

The screenplay for the film comes from Keith Bunin and the most recent draft is said to have blown the studio and director away. Gray and Bunin will now collaborate to develop the full story as they prepare for production.

The studio developed for a while and at one point the late Philip Seymour Hoffman was slated to direct before his tragic death in 2014.

I’m fascinated by the Depression Era and I’m surprised we don’t see more stories being told that are set in that time period. This is the kind of story I know I’m going to like.
