I haven’t seen the whole first season yet. It’s only a couple of episodes, but so far I’m enjoying it! That first episode did a great job of hooking me! I honestly wasn’t expecting much from this show so I was pleasantly surprised with what the series is delivering so far.
The Night Agent follows a low-level FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Low) who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings, until the night it does, thrusting him into a swift and dangerous conspiracy that eventually leads all the way to the Oval Office.
Series creator, executive producer and showrunner Shawn Ryan said in a statement: “The last week has been a whirlwind as we were finally able to share The Night Agent with the world. Seeing the incredible reaction to the show has been a great joy and a credit to our cast, writers, directors, crew and partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. We couldn’t be prouder or more excited to begin Season 2 to share the further adventures of Night Action with our new fans.”
Jinny Howe, Vice President of Drama, Netflix said: “We are proud to see The Night Agent deliver an amazing performance and be instantly embraced around the world. Shawn Ryan has created a spy thriller that moviegoers can’t get enough of, with an all-star cast including Gabriel Basso, Luciane Buchanan and Hong Chau, and we’re here to bring them more of the action and suspense they love.
Catherine PopePresident of Sony Pictures Television, said: “We are thrilled to see The Night Agent become an instant global phenomenon and look forward to continuing to tell this story with our extraordinary cast, creative leader, Shawn Ryan and our wonderful partners at Netflix”.
Ryan previously spoke about the show’s initial tone to Netflix, saying, “That each season would tell its own story, mostly self-contained, a beginning, middle, and end story, and any future season would include some but not most of the characters we saw in the previous season. That was the original plan; I think it’s still a pretty solid plan.
The series is based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk and season 2 will consist of 10 episodes. The Night Agent debuted on March 23, garnering 168.7 million viewed hours in its first few days on the streamer, the third-best season 1 premiere viewing week for any Netflix Original with a Top 10.
