Today we have a behind-the-scenes featurette to watch, in which the director talks about what he wanted to do with this film and describes him as “a Jew Lord of the Ringsbut him [Joaquin Phoenix’s character] he’s just going to his mother’s house.
He went on to say, “I want to put you in the experience of being a loser” and that “if you pumped a ten-year-old full of Zoloft and made him go shopping…it’s like this movie.” So, get ready for a wild movie time!
The story follows his character through multiple decades, and in the process, he seems to start losing his mind. The synopsis reads: “A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film.”
Phoenix is joined in the film by Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Stephen Mckinley Henderson, Hayley Squires, Denis Menochet, Kylie Rogers, Armen Nahapetian, Parker PoseyAND Patti LuPone.
Aster previously described the film as a “nightmarish comedy” and it looks like that’s what he’ll be delivering! Beau is scared will be released in theaters on April 21, 2023.
